works very well. I use it mainly for working on my car and the wide lens lights up everything I need to see and the zoom throws the beam very far. Great for taking with you at night while you walk the dog or to your car. The light is bright, blinding even, but I couldn't tell you if it was truly 500 lumens or not. The battery last long, I use it on a daily basis and have had to charge it once in the month I've had it. Incredible amount of light from a smallish flashlight
