Coffee does not get into the main area; which I was a bit worried about. Quality built; it does unscrew at the top to open and pour without taking the entire unit apart; which is great. I put coffee in; use it and then add more water and it is still strong enough. If there is a downside; and this is my fault; is that it is only a quart. I didn't quite read that in the description. So great for only two cups or so. Saves money if you buy iced coffee.
